Let’s start with that last section “written by a roofer with 15 years of 7 figure roof sales experience.”  This means that Godaddy Dave Digital, aka: David Nugent also known as David the Roofer  is more than experienced in  the roofing niche.

and ending with his last hurricane in 2019 hurricane Michael. Hundreds of hail storms and thousands of insurance claims adjusters later there were several 1000 homeowners that slept well at night knowing they got an honest deal, on a wonderful roofing system, from a great person, and a good company.Photo of storm damage and a roof after Hurricane Michael in Panama City Beach, Fl, by David ther Roofer aka Godaddy Dave Digital Marketing and Website Design Agency, Baytown Tx

Our focus was storms and storm damage restoration as it pertains to roofing contractors. Most of the time we worked closely with the insurance company’s hired field adjusters to make sure that the homeowner got a fair deal.  I am experienced in Xactimate as well as other measurement and estimating software.

Not just a run of the mill salesman we sold the 1st one million dollars for Aspen contracting and the last I checked they were doing 87 million a year.

I also was a part of the management team, my lady and myself, and we managed a staff in the hurricane Ike storm that sold 7 million dollars in re-roofs and had them 100% built and collected in 6 months.

I know what I’m doing and my team knows what I know plus what they know.  We know roofing sales, and we know how to use today’s digital marketing platforms to increase those roof sales

We know roofing sales, and we know how to use today’s digital marketing platforms to increase those roof sales

Before & After my roofing career and even during, I’ve had several other businesses that were successful.  Most notable being a medical marijuana dispensary in Denver. It was one of the 1st medical marijuana dispensaries ever in Denver. You could see an article here by CNBC  that focused on myself and my partner Linda and the medical marijuana dispensary. David Nugent and Linda Lensing in a photo in front of 100+ strains of medical marijuana, at their new Denver Dispensary, Herban Wellness Inc.

I have been building websites since the Internet only had 2 w’s so it was just WW.  The internet that most are using today has 3 Ws, www. 😄

I have been managing teams since early in life.  I have always had a 6th sense for knowing what I am not good at and what I am good at. A 6th cents for identifying my weaknesses and my strengths. This has opened the door for many collaborations and many team working environments led by myself as well as under the leadership of others.

Rest assured that over the years I have developed relationships and had the privilege to work with the world’s most talented marketers, web designers, entrepreneurs, graphic artists, and creative minds.

We get the benefits of those relationships in the amazing team Godaddy Dave Digital Marketing and Website Design Agency has in house and around the globe.

My digital marketing experience as far as Facebook ads, Google ads, and search engine optimization started 12 years ago with the dispensary followed by a very successful smoke shop supply website.

So with my knowledge of the roofing industry including the homeowners, and the Internet, encompassing all of its facets especially digital marketing and website design.

There is no one better to explain Digital Marketing for Roofing Contractors, Roofing Companies, and Roofers: Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the correct keyword phrase, aka long tail keyword.

Lets not let the grass grow under our feet.  Let’s dig in.

KEYWORD Research

The first thing to do, as a roofer, is keyword research.

Research keyword phrases that are most searched or trending in the roofing category. Using Google's Search box to fing the most searched keywords phrases used as a demonstration by Godaddy Dave Digital Marketing and Website Design Agency, Baytown Tx

OK 1st let’s define what a keyword phrase is.

Keyword: noun; – a word related to a niche that is used to describe niche.  ie: roof and roofing are keywords for the roofing niche  Using Google's Search box to fing the most searched keywords phrases used as a demonstration by Godaddy Dave Digital Marketing and Website Design Agency, Baytown TxKeyword phrase: aka; Longtail keyword – adjective; noun. A group of words grouped around a keyword is a keyword phrase.

The process for finding which keyword phrase is the right keyword phrase to focus on for a given project can take as little as 5 minutes.

I am going to highlight a free tool for keyword research that most people use everyday, the Google search box.Using Google's Search box to fing the most searched keywords phrases used as a demonstration by Godaddy Dave Digital Marketing and Website Design Agency, Baytown Tx

Look at the series of photos to get a better understanding

The picture demonstrates the suggestions seen when typing a keyword into. Google’s search box.  These suggestions are the most searched keyword phrases related to the keyword being typed.

Add a space

When you add a space and underscore before the keyword Google will add the most commonly searched words related to the searched keyword before the keyword, add a space at the end of the keyword to reveal what words are most commonly typed after the keyword

In our example pictures we have narrowed down our choices.  If I were looking for keyword phrases for my local roofing company, that is current, relevant, and actively being searched, I would choose “local roof repair contractors”, and “local roof repair companies” as the keyword phrases to optimize for.

There are great tools available for roofers to dig deeper into the data if you desire, but for the purpose of this article we are going to stop researching the two keyword phrases we want to target.Digital Marketing for Roofing Contractors, Roofing Companies, and Roofers: Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase 1

Pro Tip: add a local identifier to the beginning or end of your keyword phrase to rank quickly in local markets.

ie: “local roof repair contractors, baytown tx”

     “Local Baytown roof repair contractors”

Most searches for local service pros will include the location, most roofing companies do not know this and do not focus on location.  They should. If you search “local baytown seo and digital marketing company”

Now that we have chosen and optimized our focus keyword phrases, the next step is to use those focus long tail keywords in our media.  Please note that there is a Golden Rule when it comes to digital marketing in today’s marketplace:

Provide value 1st.  Providing value can come in many forms.  How to videos, ebooks, recipes, guides, industry definitions, process explanations, and infographics are just a few examples of possible value you can deliver to your audience to provide value.

a picture of a superman cape hanging on a fence, published on the GoDaddy Dave Didital website godaddydave.comPeople like freebies.

Gifts to potential clients break down barriers and relax defenses.  Potential client that you have given a gift to or provided value for, is 80% more likely to trust you, than if they met you as you were pitching them.

So take some time and develop your UVP, unique value proposition..  Don’t take too long, if you know your potential client, think about what drives them:

  • What type of job do they have? (management, construction, office, executive…)
  • Why do they go to work? (to provide for young children, to provide for an elderly parent, to live a flashy lifestyle, because they were told to)
  • Where do they relax, or hang out?  (local tavern, sports bar, church fellowship, facebook, linkedin, amazon)
  • What are their interests? (dogs, cats, football, local team, their kids, celebrities)

For me as a roofer, my ideal homeowner and client was usually a working professional, small business owner, or high level blue collar employee.

They were motivated by status, accomplishment, and family.  They went to work not only to provide, but to provide a better life than their parents were able to provide.   Motivated business people attending an important meeting. Image hosted on the digital marketing and website design website godaddydave.com

They also have something to prove, they want to prove that they can do it.  They relax on the golf course, at little league games, and at local sporting events, but only occasionally.

You can find them on their Facebook feeds once in a while butmost of their time online is spent debating some work related topic online in several members-only Facebook groups.

They have christian beliefs but don’t have a lot of time for church with all of the kids activities, but they will be in attendance when the season is over, around the holidays and at volunteer opportunities.

After a large storm, like a hurricane, these people will come together in a group with a name like, Aftermath and Rebuilding Chambers County, Coming Together after Hurricane Michael in PCB and so on.

Pro Tip:

Start a local “after the storm” group on Facebook.  Contribute by posting important contact info and storm recovery info.  Make the theme one of sharing and approving contractors and resources.  As the admin and owner if your input is helpful the leads will be available at your beckon call.

How does this relate to optimizing a Google My Business listing and providing value to a

potential client?  Knowing your client and what they’re about will reveal to you common needs.  When you know their common needs you are able to provide solutions to these needs, or add value, for your potential clients.

For example:  my potential clients, as a roofing contractor, needed things after a storm. They needed to know what to do next, so i would provide a free PDF that they could download describing the process of rebuilding after a storm.

Use a lead magnet to get their attention.  Something like “10 things you must know before you file an insurance claim”, or “How I get 100% more from the insurance company”.

Anyway, let’s not veer off course.  So we have all of this new information in our heads now, let’s put it to good use.

Google, “Google My Business” and follow the steps to claim it.  Google does a great job walking you through each step so I am not going to bore you with those details here.

I will point out the steps to spend more time on, sucha s your bio or about me section.  This section is going to act as the lifeblood of your digital personality and will set the tone moving forward.  Think of it as your resume, you could even use the same format as a resume for this section.

Photos

The other focus point of the Google my Business Listing is the photos section.  This is where you want to display before and aft6er pictures, pictures of your guys during a build, pictures of your office staff or crews at lunch or recreation.

This section is also for the images of the logos for companies that you are partners with.  For me these included Owens Corning, GAF, SVG, ABC Supply, Sky Diamonds University, and others that I worked with and trusted in the industry.

The most important photos are by far the before and after photos.  These are the golden ticket when it comes to getting leads from optimizing your Google My Business listing.

The two areas mentioned are the top priority in this task, but a complete profile is rewarded by Google over an incomplete profile.  So the hours of operation, special offers, building pics or inside pics must not be overlooked.

A great rule of thumb is this: If Google asks for it then give it to Google.

“A great rule of thumb is this:

If Google asks for it, give it to Google.”

The last thing that you want to do is to post often.  Remember to post value, make posts that contribute to the goal of your client and potential clients.

Post things that are funny, or if you’re the type, controversial.

Do not only post requests for business. Digital Marketing for Roofing Contractors, Roofing Companies, and Roofers: Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase 2

People will know that you offer roofing because you are always talking about roofing and storms, and posting before and after pictures of roofs that you’ve done, or how to videos, or storm preparation list.

They know that you are a roofer

A good rule of thumb here is the 80/20 rule.

80% value and 20% offer.

If you do things right, your offer will be ever present and you will contribute 100% value

with referrals and new business looking for and asking for you specifically.

Pro Tip: add value to the community and gain trust with major search engines like Google, by participating and speaking at local events.  This could be little league sponsorship for local companies, or local questions and answer panels discussing the rebuild process after a storm.

Host of the annual Win the Storm convention for roofing contractors, Richard Robinson, John Houghtaling and Anthony Delmedico answer questions during a live Q&A.

Take video and pictures so that your participation can be highlighted and so that you can tag other companies in them later for backlinks.  I will not be going in depth into backlinks with this post but there are many great resources available if you would like to know more about the value of backlinks and how to get them legitimately.

YouTube | Website Blog

We are going to talk about YouTube and your website and or your blog and the significant impact these have on your rankings on Google and other major search engines.

Did you Know?

Did you know that YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine, second only to Google?  It’s true YouTube holds the title as the second biggest search engine in the world.  The number one search engine is of course Google and they are the owners of YouTube.

The next two steps could be done in any order.  The order that you complete them will depend on your strengths or if you are a natural writer or if you feel better behind the camera.

Your Website | Blog

In today’s digital space most websites have the option to attach a blog so that the business can speak to its clients and potential clients about topics related to the business.

For me. As a roofing contractor, I would blog about “10 steps to take after a hurricane”, or “How I get 100% more than the insurance company’s original offer”, these topics answer questions that my target audience really need answered.

I also provide links to vital emergency resources like shelter information, water handout locations, emergency tarp information, Fema updates, local county and city updates.  It takes just a few minutes to look these things up and add them to a blog.

This type of information also provides a reason for readers to share and also to return to the website or blog.

Pick your topic

Pick a topic that is relevant.to your target audience.  This is not a difficult task and Google is always a great source to find relevant topics.

Use the search box on Google or on Youtube to see what questions are currently needing to be answered and use the result as your blog post topic.

Digital Marketing for Roofing Contractors, Roofing Companies, and Roofers: Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase 3For example: I just typed roofing in the search box on YouTube and I followed it with a space.  The result came back and the most relevant question that a homeowner may be looking for the answer to is “roofing a shed”.

This keyword phrase or search term appears twice on the list of the top 10 most searched questions currently on YouTube.  See the image on the right..  I would write my post about “Roofing a shed with asphalt shingles”.

This topic will include relevant keywords that I am targeting such as:

  • Roofing
  • Roofing with asphalt shingles
  • Asphalt shingles

Add the target location city. neighborhood, area, county, state or country to the topic of the blog.  In the example that I mentioned above it looks like this: “Roofing a shed with asphalt shingles in Baytown, Tx”

Write the blog post with your chosen topic

It’s time to start writing about the chosen topic.  There are a few things to remember when writing a blog that is acceptable and welcoming to Google and other major search outlets and that is pleasantly informative yet captivating for your target audience.

Do these steps for every blog post
  • Keep paragraphs short and digestible for the reader
  • Use H-tags and bold print to highlight key topics
  • Speak naturally
  • Use your topic as your focus keyword phrase or longtail keyword
  • Repeat the topic several times verbatim and with synonyms totaling 1-3% of content
  • Use complimentary pictures
  • Target length is between 1500 and 5000 words Digital Marketing for Roofing Contractors, Roofing Companies, and Roofers: Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase 4
  • Link high to quality sites like Google, or Quora, or Home Depot hen mentioning them in your post
  • Reference industry influencers like HOA presidents or local real estate agents with links (don’t forget to send them a link to the blog so that they can share it with their colleagues
  • A reminder to comment (ask a question that the readers / viewers will be eager to answer)
  • Use software like Rank Math SEO for WordPress to optimize blog post for SEO

Pro Tip:

Use local industry resources to get information that you may not have at the top of your head.  In the example if you are not an expert in explaining the exact steps a homeowner should take when “roofing a shed with asphalt shingles in Baytown tx”, just do a quick google search and curate the answer from another source.

Remember to always include a link to the source, and tell the source about the mention when possible so they can share the blog post too.

Create a Video

Creating a video that directly relates to the topic is absolutely critical.  This is a recipe that will get Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase.

Follow the recipe exactly to get Quick 1st Page Ranking Using Only Google My Business, YouTube, Your Website blog, and the Correct Keyword Phrase.

Make sense?  Good.

Making a video can be done in several ways.

You can speak to the audience directly, with you being in the video, you can use a program to speak text that you write, you can use text and images only set to music, you can use text and images with a narrator, or many other clever video creation techniques.

I like to use Quik as a go to video creator and Ripl would have to come in a close second.  Use whatever video software you like and have available.

The topic and the content of the video will be the exact same as the content and topic of the blog post.  Be sure to include the same things in the video that I listed for the blog post:

Do these steps for every video
  • Keep paragraphs short and digestible for the reader
  • Use H-tags and bold print to highlight key topics
  • Speak naturally
  • Use your topic as your focus keyword phrase or longtail keyword
  • Repeat the topic several times verbatim and with synonyms totaling 1-3% of content
  • Use complimentary pictures
  • Target length is between 1500 and 5000 words
  • Link high to quality sites like Google, or Quora, or Home Depot hen mentioning them in your post
  • Reference industry influencers like HOA presidents or local real estate agents with links (don’t forget to send them a link to the blog so that they can share it with their colleagues
  • A reminder to comment (ask a question that the readers / viewers will be eager to answer)
  • Use software like TubeBuddy to optimize video for SEO
Add these to each video in addition to the list above
  • A description optimized for the chosen topic as your keyword phrase
  • A title with your chosen keyword phrase included
  • A reminder to like, share, and subscribe

Pro Tip:

Remember when I said that the video or the blog could be completed in any order depending on your strengths?  Use the one that you created first to complete the other using the exact same content.

You can even read the blog post verbatim on video if you choose.  And vice / versa; you could use the transcript from your video as your blog.  Make some simple adjustments, but the content stays the same.
